On August 6, we mark the dedication of the first church built on Mount Tabor the (traditional) high mountain which Jesus, Peter, and John climbed. Here is where Jesus form was transformed into a glowing figure dressed in white. He conversed with Moses and Elijah. Peter wanted to build booths commemorating the event, but Jesus went on with His ministry. (Mathew 17:1-13; Mark 9:2-8; Luke 9:28-36)
The Collect of the Transfiguration
O God, who on the holy mount didst reveal to chosen witnesses thy well-beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured, in raiment white and glistening: Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from the disquietude of this world, may by faith behold the King in his beauty; who with thee, O Father, and thee, O Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth, one God, world without end. Amen.
