The Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross or the Way of the Cross is a special commemoration of the 14 important events which occured when Jesus made on His journey from His condemnation to the crucifixion and his death and burial. The way of the Cross replcates the visitation of these places of Jesus' Passion in Jerusalem by early Christian pilgrims. Eight stations are based on events recorded in the Gospels. the remaining six (3, 4,6,7,9,13) are based on inferences from the Gosples or pious legends. For each of the 14 stations, we have an icon in the church to help us focus on that aspect of Christ's travail.

Tuesday evening in Holy week, we take time to pray and meditate about this journey. The Stations of the Cross in Grace Church were a gift in 2006 from Mrs. Katherine Wellons, a member of St. Edmund's Church in Chicago, Illinois. She and her sister, Pauline Johnson, visit Grace Church annually. Because of Mrs. Wellon's generosity, we can pray and meditate about this journey Christ took on the behalf of all of us at any time.

Sometimes called the Via Delorosa, the journey marks the following events in Jesus walk:
